CIWEM Rivers and Coastal Group Florida Trip 2018

CIWEM Rivers and Coastal Group Florida Trip 2018

Event Description

CIWEM Rivers and Coastal Group are organising a trip to the Homestead / Florida Keys area of Southern Florida, in spring of 2018.

Southern Florida has a unique natural and human history when it comes to water. Miami Dade County is part of the most densely populated and economically valuable region in Florida – the entire region is linked by diverse water resources systems.

Such a rich and varied landscape provides the perfect setting for a unique and informative trip for the Rivers and Coastal group. The trip will trace the system from ocean to Everglades, illustrating the challenges and highlights of how the various engineered projects seek to balance the diverse water resource demands in South Florida.

Flights and Accommodation:

The trip activities will run from Thursday 1st February 2018 to Sunday 4th February 2018.

Flights and transfer from Miami airport to the first hotel will need to be arranged individually (if you book the recommended first hotel there is a free shuttle bus available). We suggest that you arrive at Miami Airport during the day on Wednesday 31st January, as there will be an early start on Thursday 1st February. A coach drop-off will be provided to Miami airport (MIA) on Sunday February 4th, but flights should not be booked with departure times earlier than 5pm.

Accommodation is to be arranged on an individual basis. You will stay in two areas of Florida during the trip, first Miami and then Homestead:

  • For the first two nights (31st January – 2nd February) we recommend that you stay at Fairfield Inn & Suites Miami Airport South, 4101 NW 11th Street  Miami, FL 33126 USA (Tel: +1 786-456-2100).
